Dr. John Bailey is excited to be a part of the Leesville Animal Hospital team. He has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 20 years, and as the new Lead Veterinarian, he looks forward to being able to share his medical, surgical, and leadership skills with new generations.

Born and raised in Raleigh, he is proud to still call NC his home. Growing up as a young boy, Dr. Bailey was inspired by his favorite author James Herriot who wrote the story “All Creatures Great and Small”. From an early age, he developed a true passion for animals, caring for many stray animals and bringing them home. Soon, despite his family's trepidation, he had a zoo with cats, dogs, gerbils, hermit crabs, fish, lizards, and snakes.

In 1997, Dr. Bailey graduated with honors from NC State University, with a degree in Animal Science. In 2001, he earned his DVM degree from NC State College of Veterinary Medicine. His special interests include internal medicine, advanced soft tissue, and orthopedic surgeries. Throughout his career, Dr. Bailey has strived to provide the very best medical care with kindness and compassion to his patients. He truly cares and adores the animals that have been entrusted to his care and values the respectful relationships he has with his clients and treats them like family.

Dr. Bailey is married to his college sweetheart and has four beautiful and amazing children. He has three rescued cats named Elliot, Charlie, and Fish who are comical and sweet. In his free time, he enjoys family walks and movie nights, strolls at Carolina Beach, and hiking in the mountains. His hobbies include reading classic books, collecting comic books, and designing projects using repurposed materials. His favorite movies include Star Wars, Harry Potter, and the Lord of the Rings.
