Hydrotherapy is the use of an underwater treadmill that functions within a safe, contained tank. The water in the hydrotherapy tank is heated to a comfortable temperature, which allows your pet to relax and gently stretch out their muscles while walking without straining. The water in the hydrotherapy tank not only provides warmth to soothe sore muscles, but it also provides buoyancy to reduce the load on your pet's joints while they move.

All of our hydrotherapy clients receive a customized plan based on their individual needs from their supervising veterinarian.

Is hydrotherapy right for my dog?

Our veterinarians will be able to determine whether hydrotherapy is the right choice for your dog based on their current health.

What do I need to do?

Once your dog has had a consultation with one of our veterinarians, you will receive a hydrotherapy schedule. From there, all you need to do is make sure your dog gets to their appointment on time! Our staff will take good care of your pal by monitoring them throughout their hydrotherapy session. Once you arrive to pick up your pup, our staff will let you know how they did and give you any aftercare instructions you need.

Will hydrotherapy hurt?

The hydrotherapy process itself will not hurt your dog! Any pain your pup may have will be a result of muscle soreness, but our staff will help to reduce this by applying ice following your pet's time in the tank. Your pet may also receive physical therapy following their session in the tank depending upon their individual needs.

Can my pet do hydrotherapy in summer and winter?

Yes! Our hydrotherapy tank is in a specialized room and the water is maintained at a healthy temperature to ensure that your pet is always comfortable no matter what the weather outside is like.

Do you offer feline hydrotherapy?

While the water level in our hydrotherapy tank is customized to our clients, in most circumstances we do not recommend feline hydrotherapy simply based on the level of stress it will cause to your cat.

When Is Hydrotherapy Beneficial?

Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for a wide range of pets with a variety of conditions that affect their movement.

We often recommend hydrotherapy for:

• Arthritis: The warmth of the water in the hydrotherapy tank and the buoyancy of the water provide a low-impact exercise option for arthritic pets.
• Pre-surgery strengthening: Hydrotherapy is a great low-impact exercise choice for pets prior to surgery in order to build muscle and improve healing time and stability.
• Post-surgery recovery: Hydrotherapy post-surgery provides low-impact exercise to maintain health and muscle mass while your pet recovers from their surgical procedure.
• Injury recovery: Occasionally, injured pets don't need surgery but do require moderated low-impact exercise to maintain muscle mass and prevent atrophy. Hydrotherapy is the ideal solution for this situation because it provides buoyancy, moderated exercise time, and heat.
